Hi there, I’m trying to have a points cloud convert to a G code. I have tried many different ways to get that done, but I really haven’t found a nice way to get it done. So my question here is this. Can I someway get V21 to read my points cloud convert to a solid. I have had some luck by editing each point and draw lines then convert to a solid. However it is a very time consuming process. Is there an easier way?
Unfortunately, we have to way to convert a Point Cloud to G-Code. You would have to Plot out the points and then Construct the the lines and then convert everything to a Solid just like you have been doing.
Mike Thanks for your info. Let me know if anything changes.
If you would like help from other users to just get it done, you can ask… If you need a solution for future, you can ask for that too to see what’s available.
thanks Burr, I will do that. So do you know of any solutions to my problem. I’m working on a program to convert point clouds to nurbs. It is from resurf. I will let you know how that is working out. Thanks Again.
Hey Pat, yes, that was my suggestion. Resurf3d has some nice tools and they don’t cost a lot, which is what many of the options will turn out to be. You can generate pretty accurate surfaces with “Point cloud to NURBS”. With some situation, you may have to manipulate the points to get a good result. Like, breaking certain areas into sections, or what not. Good luck with it. Resurf should get you good surface.
I use Rhinocad for converting point clouds from my digitizing arm to surfaces. I’m running a 10 year old version but I’m sure the newer versions still do. Hope this helps.
Just wanted to give you a update. Still having troubles with converting my points cloud to a solid with Resurf. When I convert it to a solid it won’t keep square edges. It looks like your trying to put a covering on the points by stretching the covering over the points. I have adjusted the settings so it’s not to stretch as much but no luck.I haven’t tried Burrs tip of doing it by sections yet but will. Also Joe I’ve done some search for Rhinocad. I get two hits. Rhino 5 and Rhinocad. Which one do you use? Thanks for all your help.
