    HI all,
I’m attempting to thread mill with bobcad for the first time. I need to make 5 1/4-20 UNC threads in some anviloy 1105. I only have one shot to get them right. I just wanted to verify my thread parameters with you folks and maybe get some advise about any bobcad thread milling quirks.
    My parameters:
    Pattern: Bottom Up
    Thread Type: Inside
    Blind
    Right Hand
    Thread Diameter: .250
Thread Height: .0271 (Is this option even necessary? Doesn’t seem to affect the tool path.)
    Thread Pitch: .050
    Threads per Rev: 1
    Lead In/Out: Helical Rad. .03
Tool: .180 dia. 3 flt 20 pitch carbide thread mill.

If anything looks out of place please let me know ASAP.
P.S. Is there a forum search function any where? I can’t seem to find it and I hate asking questions without searching first.

    Thanks Jrmach,
I would like to say “if it was a snake it would have bit me,” but how in God’s name was I supposed to find that without someone pointing me to it. Now that I have been directed to the search function I find that it only searches Active topics. What if the answer to my question was posted over a year ago? Honestly, I am a member of a lot of online forums and I have never used one so obtuse and user unfriendly (the iterface not the members) as this one. –end rant

Ranting asside, thanks again for the help. Wish me luck on the thread milling. I’ll need it.

I just wanted to say that the thread milling went great! Good threads the first time no re-cutting.
    Two things though:
1.) It would be nice to select multiple points for the tread milling operation (like drilling)
2.) Bobcad won’t let me Save the thread milling operation. I have to make a new threading operation each time.

On an unrelated note. Bobcad won’t let me use the letter “p” when renaming CAM Features or layers. Anyone else have this quirk?
This is on WinXP SP3 with BCAD build 678.

the “p” problem has been acknowledged and BoB said it will be fixed in a later update

    Benjamin

Glad to hear the thread milling went OK.

    Answers:
    1) Yes, it is a small issue, don`t know if it is being worked on or not, sorry.
    2) I have not had any problem saving out a thread mill feature and re-loading it, very easy if the threads are all the same, just a matter of selecting a new/different start point.
    3)Yes, everyone else has it :D :D
BobCAD say it is being adressed in the next update so shouldn`t be far away :D :D

    Regards
    Rob

I’m working in a new file today and was able to create and save a thread milling opp. Yesterday in the file I was working I could not save a thread mill opp. Go figure.
btw: I’m getting around the “p” issue by usung “P” instead.
