Finally getting around to cutting the homeland.. It wont be too big. Something like 4×2.5 or something.. I’ll post some pictures of how it comes out..

send me a file i will cut in mdf
how big do you want it to be

Thanks dwood. It’s more of a fun project for us. I can send you files if you want to cut them, but it’s nothing we need.

We are pretty excited about loading V24. They seemed to have worked on the memory managment more. This particular STL is 250 mb. V23 wouldnt even open it. So now we can test to start cutting some stuff I’ve been meaning to get machined. I’ll show the results and certainly glad to share anything if wanted… This is a closeup crop of a dem from the entire Island. Here’s a shot of the entire dem.

it might be fun to cut at about 24 inches
might take me all day to open the file never
    tried anything that big

    Hey dwood,
Here’s the STL used to make this toolpath:

    http://www.i386group.com/bobhuh/kokohead_no_reduce_4_million.zip

Here is a good hint for working with these..
1.Open STL (wait….wait….)and immediatly save your bbcd file.
2.rotate and scale. Select(wait…wait…) then wait a bit for completion. Saves
3.create feature and select geometry (wait) then,
    4. “BLANK THE STL”
    5. Now bbcd file will perform normally. It will be something like a 350 mb file, but, will open quickly and select boundries and such normally. The slowness will return when needing to “unblank” the STL.

    Good luck

Here’s the cut after it happened. Hey Dwood, if you can load and work on that stl filesize and can make a larger cut, let me know… Maybe it would look better to do the entire island shot, as seen in my last post.. Maybe I could mail you a slab of Koa wood to use. (Could I get the cut? :o )

Anyway, we were pretty happy with how it came out.. Couldnt have done this without V24!

hey burr not having much luck so far
will keep trying, had TO stop but it was still running if i get it to open i will be glad to cut you something, yours looks good man
    another subject
i have been looking at some off lease computers
guy can configure most any way i need???
    looking at
    2×2.5gh Xeon processors 12mb cache 8 cores
    8 gig of ram
    768gig nvidia card FX4600
but has windows XP Pro 64bit on it
or do i need windows 7
the system i have works fine for my machining and
drawing most things but not much fun for art work

That sounds like a good system dwood.

I have a dual quad core xeon with an fx 5600. I originally loaded it with xp 32 bit OS, because I was waiting for drivers to catch up. They did, and I loaded W7 64 bit. I run the latest nvidia beta drivers.

Bobcad wont utilize the entire computer, but it does allow me to process stuff that would never happen on a normal box. Just upgraded my slower 4X 1gb ram chips to 2X 4 gb faster chips. Should arrive in the next few days. Will slowly build that up to at least 24 gb for some of my other 64 bit apps…

I would load W7, unless you have some specific “XP App”. Mem management is just that much better. (Possibly even consider dumping the XP required app and moving on.

Cutting the Island in Koa would be insane. Also for the time being, if you just cant compute the toolpath, send me a file with the feature and specs you would use, and I calculate the toolpath and send it back to you to post out. But that new box sounds like it would do it too. Let me know if it is usable for you. :)

[EDIT] “”"”"”"”"”"but has windows XP Pro 64bit on it
or do i need windows 7″”"”"”"”"”

If the box you find has xp 64 bit, you could still purchase it and load W7 on it later… Be sure to spend for “W7 Ultimate” and not one of the lessor flavors! [EDIT]

hey burr got the file open scaled down .125 twice,
around 13x20in but will not toolpath it calcaulates but will
not show , i think this was a symtom i had before with 3g switch.
attached is my post i use
    lets try this
see if you can get code
    .500 flat e mill z rough .125 zdepth .250step over .060 xyz allowance
14000 rpm 100 in per min feed xy, z plunge feed 50 in per min
    ramp in leads
    turn on arc fit
we can try 1 tool at a time that is the way i will machine
hopefully it will upload clean should run fine here

  • Profile picture of burr burr said 1 year, 7 months ago ago:

What file are you attaching??? The limit of filesize is 10 mb

  • Profile picture of dwood1027 dwood1027 said 1 year, 7 months ago ago:

i zipped up my post so you could use it to send me some code, i am using IE 9 i think there may be something missing i will keep trying
