have set up a ream feature and it wants to go too deep and I can’t figure out why.
the drill cycle is drilling to a depth of .239″
the depth is set at .0938″
    What am I missing?
    Thanks,

I was hoping someone could look at my file to see what I am doing wrong.
I can enter negative numbers, enter zero and it doesn’t changed the drill depth. I can enter a negative number and it still doesn’t change the drill depth.
    thanks,

Hi dlaery, , check your tool, there was another topic about drilling a hole with an end mill, the tool did not have a flat bottom but had a 118 degree angle like a drill bit would have and the software included the angle in the depth calculation.

thanks, I changed it to 0 and it changed it a small amount to compensate for the angled point but still not even close to where I think it should be.
Here is a video showing my setup. what am I missing?

can you delete the finish drill all together?

  • Profile picture of dlaery dlaery said 1 year, 3 months ago ago:

There is no finish. I already deleted it. the video is hard to see if you don’t maximize it. Al I want it to do is spot drill, drill a hole and the run the reamer. In Ver 23 I could set the drill depth to a negative to get to the right depth because I could never get it to work like is was suppose to. In ver 24 I haven’t figured out how to correct that.
I think something is wrong with BobCad. But I’ve been wrong before and be willing to admit it is my fault. I just want it to drill the right depth.

In the code it is going to a depth of Z-.1875
    N18 T2 M6
    N19 S6685 M03
    N20 G00 G90 G54 X-1.37 Y-.875
    ;N21 G43 H2 Z.5 M08
    N22 G81 G98 X-1.37 Y-.875 Z-.1875 R.5 F26.7421

I can change that, but either I am doing something wrong or BC is wrong.

@al maybe al could have an answer .
sorry i could not be any help, normally i just edit my code and go from there.

anyone noticed how many 093 drills this feature will add to the
tool data base when system tools are used

  • Profile picture of dlaery dlaery said 1 year, 3 months ago ago:

Thank you dwood. Is that in yours also or did you just see it in my video?

I have tried this in ver 23 because I remember having the same trouble in ver23. It is worse in ver 23 because the spot drill goes too deep like the drill does. In my example I set the effective depth to .09 and the spot drill and the drill goes to Z-.2479
I am curious, does anyone else use the Ream feature and does it work correct for you?
    Thanks,

i tried your file first, it did not work correctly, then watched your video
and saw the extra tools there then tried mine it does the same in that feature, do not think i had used the ream feature, seems to be a problem,
i most of the time use each feature as indiviual tool so had not bothered me

Here is the answer to my problem posted in the Zone:

    This is V23.

Hope that makes sense and is of some help.
    WOW

    That did the trick.
Now it is not broke anymore.

I just got back from SolidWorks World otherwise I would have chimed in earlier.

Yes in the cutting conditions there are options that effect the way holes are processed. Is you are getting a result other than what you expect when it comes to processing holes then it most likely would have to do with your cutting condition settings.

    Sorry for the delay.

Ok different part, I have set up a Ream Operation, on the center drill when moving from hole to hole it retracts to Z 2.9924? where does that come from?
In my Milling Stock the rapid plane is set to .100, In my Ream operation Material approach is set to .100, my Top of part is set at 0. When looking at the computed tool path, it shows .100 above 0 like it should.
This does the same thing on the drill, the chamfer and the ream.
I have went to the Cutting Conditions under Parameters and don’t see anything thing there that would change this.
Attached it the code for the Ream operation.
I am trying to figure out how to retract to .100 and not 2.9924
    Thanks,

  • Profile picture of dlaery dlaery said 1 year, 1 month ago ago:
