We would like to thank everyone who attended the CAD/CAM Slam “Best Practices” WebCast! It was a huge success and we had a great opportunity to show the BobCAM for SolidWorks product to manufacturers and designers around the world! With so much more to talk about when it comes to BobCAM and SolidWorks we invite you to download a free demo of the BobCAM product and call us to find out more about how we can help you become more productive with one powerful and easy to use solution!

There were some questions that we simply did not have enough time to get to. And so we promised to answer them here:

Q. Can we get a copy of this webinar?
A. Yes. Once the webcast video has been compiled and reviewed we will post a link so that you can access it. Keep checking back here for details.

Q. Our machinist doesn’t use SolidWorks, so will he be able to use BobCAD-CAM without a copy of SolidWorks on his machine?
A. BobCAM is a direct add-in to SolidWorks. Therefore you must have SolidWorks in order to use BobCAM. However, BobCAD-CAM Version 24 is a stand alone CAD/CAM system used by thousands to design and machine their parts. This system does allow you to import SolidWorks part files for machining. It really depends on what you are trying to accomplish. You can contact us directly at 877-262-2231 to speak to one of our technicians who can help you.

Q. We have a older copy of BC, with two dongle seats that allows us to use on several computers. Would be possible to use these dongle licenses with BC for SW?
A. We have changed our licensing and no longer use dongles. We know that there are both pro’s and cons to having dongles and is exactly why we work with manufacturers to ensure they have the right quantity of licenses to suite their needs. Once again, give us a call and we can work with you to make sure you have the best.

Q. So if we purchased your SW and BC bundle for our machinist he would be able to use our designed parts and set them up and run them?
A. Absolutely. The Parts and Assembly bundle that we offer may be the right solution for you. When you contact Al on the Partner Products division here he can assess your needs and requirements. Then we can go from there.

Q. What would the option be if one already has v24 milling/art/lathe/art etc., how do we upgrade to BobCAM for SolidWorks?
A. As a current customer you may qualify for special BobCAM pricing. Call us today and we can go over the details.

Q. IS there more instructional material in the webinar?
A. The webcast did not show any instructions on how to use the software. However we supply a variety of instructional products and videos along with it once purchased.

Q. How many axes?
A. Right now 2 & 3 axis with 4th axis indexing and wrapping.

Q. Does BobCAM support CNC machining with wire EDM or just milling and lathe?
A. Mill & Lathe at this time.

Q. We only have Mill/Turn machines and we do a lot of bar stock and we flip the stock to run both ends in one operation. Can BobCAM handle this situation?
A. Currently BobCAM does not support Mill/Turn but will in the future.

Q. I recently purchased BobCAD V24. Is SolidWorks in addition to or does it replace V24?
A. SolidWorks is a totally separate software and if you purchased it, it would not replace BobCAD V24. However we recommend BobCAM V2 if you did buy SolidWorks as there are many benefits. Some you were able to see in the webcast.

Q. We have an older version of BobCAD and we use Solidworks. Would this software be an upgrade, or would it be like purchasing new software?
A. We do our best to make sure that our customers get the best upgrade and new product pricing possible. Call us before December 31st, 2011 for special holiday pricing!

Q. How about HS pocketing?
A. Currently BobCAM does not offer HSP. However, it is on our radar in development.

Q. Is the NC editor still a Preditor type product?
A. Yes. It is the same editor used in the BobCAD-CAM V24 product.

Q. Can you describe a little about how you transfer code to and from the CNC controls.
A. The built-in editor offers send and receive along with DNC functionality. The best thing to do would be to call us and setup a one on one demonstration of the product.

Q. Can you reduce a 3d model to a 2d rendering or collapse a wire frame to a flat item?
A. Yes. This is a feature within SolidWorks.

Q. Do the new updates of bobCAM come out the same time as SolidWorks updates per year?
A. We are not on the same development schedule even though we follow what SolidWorks does very close. We release updates to BobCAM whenever we have them for our BobCAM customers without charging them maintenance.

Q. Do the wizards address tool number for a tool change? I am operating a CNC Router.
A. The rough and finishing tool pages of the wizards allow for both a tool label and a tool number.

Q. Does BobCAM have the ability to use custom form tools in mill simulations? How about using chamfer tool in a milling cycle?
A. Supported tools can be simulated. Chamfer tools are one of them. Special form tools are not at this time.

That just about covers the leftover questions from event attendees. We hope this helps you. You can always contact The BobCAD-CAM Partner Products division at 727-683-2101 or Toll Free 866-408-3226.
