Extract Edges Single
Introduction
This topic will explain the Extract Edges Single function, describe where to find it, and the options found in it. This topic will also provide quick steps on how to use it, and provide links to related topics.
The Extract Edges Single Function
The Extract Edges Single function allows you select one or more individual solid faces, surfaces, or surface edges to extract and create wireframe curves. (Single doesn't refer to a single edge, but rather single selection instead of whole solid selection.)
Tip: It is helpful to create a new layer and set it as the Active layer, before opening the function, to create the extracted curves on the separate layer. Otherwise, you must hide, move, or delete the original geometry to see the curves.
Navigation
To open Extract Edges:
-
In the Utilities group, of the Create 2D ribbon, click Extract Edges.
The parameters display in the Data Entry Manager.
The Data Entry Parameters
- Pick Whole Solid - surfaces are added to the Selected Geometry list one at a time.
- Pick Whole Solid - entire solids are added to the Selected Geometry list at once.
(Delete) - removes the highlighted item from the list. (Delete All) - removes all entities from the list. |
|
The list box will list the entities currently selected for the function. |
- Project to Z Plane - the extracted edges retain their exact position.
-
Project to Z Plane - the extracted edges are projected to a specified Z-axis
coordinate of the Active UCS.
- Z - is the Z-axis value to which the edges are extracted when using Project to Z Plane.
- OK - finalizes the function.
- Cancel - exits the function.
Quick Steps - Extract Edges Single
Tip: You may want to create a new Layer and set it as the Active layer before extracting edges. This makes it easier to hide and show layers so you can see the result.
-
Open the function.
The Selected Geometry list automatically has focus. - Click to select one or more solid faces,
edges, or surfaces from which you want to extract the edges.
The geometry is added to the Selected Geometry list. - Set the Data Entry
parameters as needed.
- To confirm the selection, press the spacebar, or click OK.
The edges are extracted and the wireframe is created in the graphics area.
You may need to move, hide, or delete the original geometry to see the extracted edges. - To close the function, click Cancel.
