Line Parallel

Introduction

This topic will explain the Line Parallel function, will explain where to find the function, and explain the options found in it. This topic will also give a brief description of the Snap Increment function, explain creation with quick steps, and provide links to related topics.

The Line Parallel Function

The Line Parallel function creates a copy of a specified line that is parallel to the selected entity.

Snap Increment

This function support the use of the snap increment when selecting the location of the entities. The snap increment allows you to get precise results when using mouse selection and helps to reduce data entry modifications.

To open Line Parallel:

  • In the Entity group, of the Create 2D ribbon, click the down arrow under Line and click   Line Parallel.

 

The parameters display in the Data Entry Manager.

Creation Option

Selected Geometry

 

(Delete) - removes the highlighted item from the list.

The list box will list the entity currently selected for the function.


Parallel Option

 

  • Distance - allows the parallel line to be placed on either side of the line to be copied at the distance specified below.
  • Side Only - allows the parallel line to be placed on either side of the line to be copied at any distance the user drags the copy to.
  • Free Drag - allows the parallel line to be placed anywhere the user drags the copy to.

    • Distance - sets the distance at which to create the parallel line.

 

  • Cancel - closes the Data Entry Manager.

Quick Steps - Line Parallel

Parallel Option - Distance

  1. Open the function.

    The Selected Geometry list automatically has focus.

  2. Select the line to be paralleled.

    The line is added to the Selected Geometry list.

  3. Ensure Distance is set for the Parallel Option.

  4. Set the Distance to be used.

  5. Move your cursor to the side of the line the copy is to be made on.

  6. Click in the graphics area to set the line location.

  7. Repeat as necessary.

  8. Click Cancel to exit the function.

Parallel Option - Side Only

  1. Open the function.

    The Selected Geometry list automatically has focus.

  2. Select the line to be paralleled.

    The line is added to the Selected Geometry list.

  3. Ensure Side Only is set for the Parallel Option.

  4. Move your cursor in the graphics area until the preview displays the desired result.

  5. Click a location to set the line location.

  6. Repeat as necessary.

  7. Click Cancel to exit the function.

Parallel Option - Free Drag

  1. Open the function.

    The Selected Geometry list automatically has focus.

  2. Select the line to be paralleled.

    The line is added to the Selected Geometry list.

  3. Ensure Free Drag is set for the Parallel Option.

  4. Move your cursor in the graphics area until the preview displays the desired result.

  5. Click a location to set the line location.

  6. Repeat as necessary.

  7. Click Cancel to exit the function.
