Extract Edges Single

This topic will explain the Extract Edges Single function, describe where to find it, and the optionsfound in it.This topic will also provide quick steps on how to use it, and provide links to related topics.

The Extract Edges Single Function

The Extract Edges Single function allows you select one or more individualsolid faces, surfaces, or surface edges to extract and create wireframecurves.(Single doesn't refer to a single edge, but rather single selectioninstead of whole solid selection.)

Tip: Itis helpful to create a new layer and set it as the Active layer, beforeopening the function, to create the extracted curves on the separate layer.Otherwise, you must hide, move, or delete the original geometry to seethe curves.

To open Extract Edges:

  • In the Utilities group, of the Create 2D ribbon, click Extract Edges.

The parameters display in the Data Entry Manager.

The Data Entry Parameters

  • Pick Whole Solid
    - surfaces are added to the Selected Geometry list one at a time.
    - entire solids are added to the Selected Geometry list at once.

(Delete) - removes the highlighted item from the Selected Geometry list.

(Delete All) - removes all entities from the Selected Geometry list.

The list will display all entities currently selected for the function.

  • Project to Z Plane
    - the extracted edges retain their exact position.
    - the extracted edges are projected to a specified Z-axiscoordinate of the Active UCS.

    • Z- is the Z-axis value to which the edges are extracted when usingProject to Z Plane.

  • OK - finalizes the function.

  • Cancel - exits the function.

Quick Steps - Extract Edges Single

Tip: You may want to create a new Layer and set it as the Active layer beforeextracting edges. This makes it easier to hide and show layers so youcan see the result.

  1. Open the function.

The Selected Geometry list automatically has focus.

  2. Click to select one or more solid faces, edges, or surfaces from which you want to extract the edges.

The geometry is added to the Selected Geometry list.

  3. Set the Data Entryparameters as needed.

  4. To confirm the selection, press the spacebar, or click OK.

The edges are extracted and the wireframe is created in the graphicsarea.

You may need to move, hide, or delete the original geometry to seethe extracted edges.

  5. To close the function, click Cancel.
