Explode

Introduction

This topic will explain the Explode function, describe where to find it, and the options found in it. This topic will also provide quick steps on how to use it, and provide links to related topics.

The Explode Function

The Explode function converts geometric entities into only lines or arcs. To perform the function, you select geometry, and press the Spacebar to accept the selection.

To open Explode:

  • In the Reorganize group, of the Utilities ribbon, click Explode.

The Data Entry Parameters

Selected Geometry

(Delete) - removes the highlighted item from the Selected Geometry list.

(Delete All) - removes all entities from the Selected Geometry list.

The list will display all entities currently selected for the function.

Parameters

  • Accuracy - defines the accuracy of the exploded result compared to the original entity (maximum chord height). Higher values create larger segments.

  • Entity Type - When selected, this option allows for the creation of arcs in the exploded result.

Selection Mask

All selectable entity types are enabled bydefault. You can disable the selection of the specific entity types:

  • Text - controls the ability to explode text geometry.
  • Arcs - controls the ability to explode arc geometry.
  • Splines - controls the ability to explode spline geometry.
  • Contours - controls the ability to explode contour geometry.
  • Point Patterns - controls the ability to explode point pattern geometry.

  • OK - finalizes the function.

  • Cancel - exits the function.

Quick Steps - Extract Edges From Solids

  1. Open the function.

The Selected Geometry list automatically has focus.

  2. Select the entities to be exploded.

The geometry is added to the Selected Geometry list.

  3. Set the Data Entry parameters as needed.

  4. To confirm the selection, press the spacebar, or click OK.

    The geometry is exploded.
