This topic will explain the Tilted relative to cutting direction option, describe where to find it, and provide an example.

Tilted relative to cutting direction

The Tool Axis Control tilting strategy Tilted relative to cutting direction allows you to define the tool axis orientation in reference to the surface normal and the direction of the tool movement.

Navigation

To access Tilted relative to cutting direction: 

 

  • The Tilted relative to cutting direction option can be found on the Tool axis control page.

    Click to view the options in the drop down next to Tool axis will... and select Be tilted relative to cutting direction.

    With that option selected, the Side tilt definition options will become visible further down the page.

    Click to view the drop down list and select Tilted relative to cutting direction.

Example

  • In the following image, you can see the surface normal direction in blue (1) and the cutting direction along the part (3). The Lead Angle to Cutting Direction (2) is 45 degrees. The positive angle tilts the tool toward the cutting direction. A negative value tilts the tool away from the cutting direction (the opposite direction of that shown).
