Cutoff Feature Parameters

Introduction

This topic explains the Feature page of the Lathe Wizard for a Cutoff feature. This topic will explain the options, provide images, and provide a link to the next topic.

The Feature page

Most every lathe part needs to be cut off of the stock at some point. The Lathe Cutoff feature, of course, allows you to do this with one operation.  The operation itself has many variables that can be tailored to your needs.

Material Approach

Rapid Plane - is the height at which the tool can rapid safely within a single operation.

Feature Parameters

Feature Type

  • OD - Sets the feature to the outer diameter of the part.

Constraints

The constraints define the area in which the toolpath will be generated.

Top of Feature - defines the height at which the rapid plane will be incremental from. In the case of the End Face feature, the Top of Feature will be a point along Z.

  • From Stock - sets the Top of Feature to the highest point of the stock diameter and to the farthest point in +Z .

  • Custom - allows an incremental value to be selected as the Top of Feature. The selected geometry of the feature, or the portion of geometry furthest in +Z, will be set as 0.0000 for the custom value. Any value entered will create additional area to be cut from that point.

    • Pick - hides the Lathe Wizard to allow you to pick a point to set as the Top of Feature. You can select an actual point or the snap point of an entity.

Important: The Pick value is an absolute radius value.
