End Face Feature Parameters

Introduction

This topic explains the Feature page of the Lathe Wizard for an End Face feature. This topic will explain the options, provide images, and provide a link to the next topic.

The Feature page

The purpose of End Face is to quickly face off a portion of the part without the need to create additional geometry. The Lathe End Face feature offers two operations, each of which has many variables that can be tailored to your needs.

Material Approach

Rapid Plane - is the height at which the tool can rapid safely within a single operation. This value visualized as a dotted line in the toolpath and is an incremental distance above the Top of Feature defined in the Constraints section.

Feature Parameters

Feature Type

  • Front Face- is set as the only available Feature Type for the Lathe End Face feature.

  • Region - Sets the features default settings for the type of toolpath being used. This will set the default rapids, entry and exits as well as default tool selection and direction of cut.

  • 1 - will set the facing operations to cut down in the -X direction.

  • 2 - will set the facing operations to cut up in the +X direction.

    End Face

    Face Region 1

    Face Region 2

Note: Region selections are not only for particular sections of the part. Even though, for a given situation, a particular region choice will set the feature up to be better suited for the task, the user may adjust the remaining parameters to match their particular needs.

Constraints

The constraints define the area in which the toolpath will be generated.

Top of Feature - defines the height at which the rapid plane will be incremental from. In the case of the End Face feature, the Top of Feature will be a point along Z.

  • From Stock - sets the Top of Feature to the highest point of the stock diameter and to the farthest point in +Z .

  • Custom - allows an incremental value to be selected as the Top of Feature. The selected geometry of the feature, or the portion of geometry furthest in +Z, will be set as 0.0000 for the custom value. Any value entered will create additional area to be cut from that point.

    • Pick - hides the Lathe Wizard to allow you to pick a point to set as the Top of Feature. You can select an actual point or the snap point of an entity.

Extension

Extensions allow you to extend the cut of the End Face feature. The End Face geometry is essentially a point. The Extension gives you the ability to extend the cut beyond the diameter and even below the center of rotation.

- No extension will be created.

- The toolpath will be created based on the following options.

Start - is where the cut begins.

  • Distance - sets the amount of extension added to the beginning of the cut.

End - is where the cut ends.

  • Distance - sets the amount of extension added to the end of the cut.
