Links

Introduction

This topic explains the Links page of the Advanced Rough operation found in the Mill 3 Axis Wizard.

Links

Within Groups

This creates the linking method between consecutive offset loops within one region.

Note: When using the Adaptive Roughing cut pattern, in the Patterns page, the S-Link, and Full Retract options are unavailable.

  • Direct - creates a direct linear move from one pass to the next.

  • S-Link - creates an s-shaped link to smoothly transition from one pass to the next.

  • Full Retract - creates a retract move to the rapid plane to link one pass to the next pass.

  • Rapid Retract for Large Gaps - when the tool needs to move from one area to another, it will utilize a rapid movement between those locations. This options allows you to decide at which speed to retract to that rapid.

    - Select the check box to set the retract movement to the rapid as a rapid move instead of the maximum feedrate.

    - Clear the check box to leave the retract movement remain at the maximum feedrate.

Between  Groups

This controls the linking method when moving from one region to the next.

Note: When using the Adaptive Roughing cut pattern, in the Patterns page, the Direct, and S-Link options are unavailable.

  • Direct - creates a direct linear move from one pass to the next.

  • S-Link - creates an s-shaped link to smoothly transition from one pass to the next.

  • Retract - creates a retract move to the rapid plane to link one pass to the next pass.

Adaptive Clearance

  • Link Clearance - is the clearance height applied to create a retract move to link non-connected cuts when using the Adaptive Roughing Cut Pattern. This value can be set to zero to remove the link clearance from the toolpath. The value can't be greater than the depth of cut and when using Intermediate slices, the value can't be greater than the depth of cut divided by one plus the number of intermediate slices. [0 <= Link Clearance < Depth of Cut / (1 + Number of Intermediate Slices)]

Tip: The Maximum Cutting Feedrate (in Current Settings) is applied to the adaptive link moves between cuts.

  • Retract Threshold (x Tool Diameter) - allows you to specify a maximum length link before a Rapid Retract for Large Gaps should be utilized.

  • Wall Clearance

    - With this check box selected, a distance can be set that will ensure the tool returns to the cut, from the Link Clearance, a safe distance away from the walls.

    - With this check box cleared, you will not be able to specify a distance from the wall, and the toolpath will handle it automatically.
