The Mill 3 Axis Wizard Geometry Selection

Introduction

The first step of the Mill 3 Axis Wizard,  is to assign geometry for the feature. All operations in the feature are performed on the selected geometry. The Feature Geometry dialog box appears allowing you to select geometry, boundaries and allows you to set the top of the feature. This topic explains all sections of the Feature Geometry Picking dialog.

Geometry Selection

The 3 Axis feature uses solids/surfaces for the feature geometry and wireframe chains for boundaries. The 3 Axis Wireframe feature uses 3D chains for the feature geometry.

  • Select Geometry- is used to assign solid or surface geometry to the feature. All operations in the feature are performed on the selected geometry.

  • Select Boundary- is used to assign geometry in which to confine the feature. You can select wireframe chains, surface edges, or surfaces. Click OK () to confirm the selection and return to the wizard.

Note: When you select either Select Geometry, or Select Boundary, the Mill 3 Axis Wizard is hidden, and the Feature Geometry Picking dialog opens in the Data Entry Manager whose options are shown below. Select geometry as needed and confirm to return to the Mill 3 Axis Wizard.

Feature Geometry Picking

  • Select Solid Body

    - Allows you to select individual surfaces as geometry for the feature.

    - Allows you to pick the entire model by selecting any one of its surfaces.

Selected Geometry - list all the geometry selected for the feature.

(Delete) - removes the highlighted item from the list.

(Delete All)- removes all entities from the list.

The list box will list the entities currently selected for the function.

Tip: When creating a 3 Axis feature, select the entire model/solid geometry, and then use a boundary to confine the feature toolpath. (The boundary should be used to limit the toolpath, not the geometry selection.)

Selected Boundary

Selected Boundary - list all the geometry selected for the feature.

(Delete) - removes the highlighted item from the list.

(Delete All)- removes all entities from the list.

The list box will list the entities currently selected for the function.

Feature Parameters - This group allows you to set the Top of the Feature.

Top of Feature

is the highest point in Z that cuts for the feature should be made. This value is incremental from the Machine Setup or machining origin.

  • Top - sets the Top of Feature value on the Feature page.

Pick Top- allows you to select an item from the graphics area to specify the Top of Feature value.

(Delete) - removes the highlighted item from the list.

This list box will show the entity currently selected for the function.

OK - confirms the geometry and closes the Feature Geometry Picking manager.

Cancel - cancels geometry selection and closes the Feature Geometry Picking manager.
