Advanced Options for Surface Paths

Introduction

The Advanced Options for Surface Paths gives extended control over Morph Between 2 Surfaces and Parallel to Surface. This option allows you to cut only in front of a selected surface.

Navigation

To access the Advanced Options for Surface Paths dialog box:

  • In the Surface Paths tab of the Multiaxis Wizard, in the Pattern group, click Advanced.

(This option is only available for Morph Between 2 Surfaces and Parallel to Surface.)

Parameters

Note: For all ...toolpath tangent angleoptions - positive values tilt the toolpath inward (in surface normal direction) and negative values tilt the toolpath outward (opposite the surface normal direction).

Morph between 2 surfaces

  • Generate Toolpath Only at Front Side

Select the check box to generate a toolpath parallel to the selected surface on its surface normal side.

Clear the check box to generate a toolpath on both sides of the selected surface.

    • First surface toolpath tangent angle - is added to the first toolpath cut away from the selected surface.

    • Second surface toolpath tangent angle - is added to the first toolpath cut away from the selected surface.

Parallel to surface

  • Generate Toolpath Only at Front Side

Select the check box to generate a toolpath parallel to the selected surface on its surface normal side.

Clear the check box to generate a toolpath on both sides of the selected surface.

    • First surface toolpath tangent angle - is added to the first toolpath cut away from the selected surface.

Parallel to Surface Example

  • The first image is with Generate Toolpath Only at Front Side turned off.

  • The next image is with Generate Toolpath Only at Front Side turned on. Notice that the selected surface is virtually extended to the ends of the drive surface.

  • The Single Edge Toolpath Tangent Angle limits the toolpath generation. Imaging that you tilt the virtual extended surfaces with an angle.

Morph Between 2 Surfaces Example

  • The first image is with Generate Toolpath Only at Front Side turned off.

  • The next image is with Generate Toolpath Only at Front Side turned on. Notice that the selected surface is virtually extended to the ends of the drive surface.

  • The final images show the First Surface Toolpath Tangent Angle and Second Surface Toolpath Tangent Angle.
