Tool Axis Control: Advanced Rough
Introduction
This topic explains the Tool Axis Control page of the Advanced Rough operation found in the 3 Axis Wizard, the options found in it, and will provide links to related topics.
Tool Axis Control
Method
This group controls the number of axis used for the operation. Choose between 3 Axis, and Automatic 3+2 (5 Axis).
Important: As it pertains to outputting the NC code: When using the 3 Axis option we will use the setting listed for the Standard option in the Move List Coordinates group of the Multiaxis Posting page of the Current Settings dialog. When Automatic 3+2 (5 Axis) is used, we will use the setting listed for Multiaxis Simultaneous Motion of the same group.
Mode
This group becomes available when using the Automatic 3+2 (5 Axis) method.
-
Automatic - Automatic machining searches the areas which have not been machined and processes them according to the search angle increment , max. stock to leave , and max. tilt range . Based on these parameters, machining is performed from all possible indexed directions.
-
Manual - machines only from the directions added by the user or the tool plane. The part is machined in the chosen directions according to the maximum reach of the tool.
-
Semi-Automatic - allows you to start machining from a preferred direction. Users can change the search angle increment , max. stock to leave and max. tilt range parameters.
-
(Add Direction) - creates a new point in the list.
-
(Delete Direction) - removes the currently selected item from the list.
-
(Pick Direction) - closes the Mill 3 Axis Wizard and opens the Select Tool Plane dialog. This allows you to select the lines, edges, or surfaces to set the direction or enter X,Y,Z values to set the direction. Click OK to have the direction added to the list.
-
(Move Up) - moves the currently selected item up the list.
-
(Move Down) - moves the currently selected item down the list.
- Search Angle Increment - defines in what increments the tool is rotated to find the best direction to machine the untouched areas of stock without gouging the neighboring walls. This option becomes available when the Automatic or Semi-Automatic modes are selected.
- Max Stock to Leave - determines how much stock to ignore when searching for areas to machine. If the stock in an area is smaller than the specified value it is ignored. This option becomes available when the Automatic or Semi-Automatic modes are selected.
- Max Tilt Range - defines the maximum amount of tilt allowed in the search. This option becomes available when the Automatic or Semi-Automatic modes are selected.
