Save Whole Emboss As Component/STL Example 1

Introduction

This topic explains how to save an entire embossed model as a component/stl.This option saves the entire model, including the canvas surface (see noteslater in this topic), in a single .stl file. This file can then be usedto create an Emboss from Component feature.Because the component is savedas an .stl file, it can be used as any other .stl file.

The following is an example model that we use to illustrate the process. When you are ready to save an embossed model, use the steps explainedin this topic.

Save Whole Emboss As Component/STL

  1. In the BobART Tree, right-click Emboss Model, and click Save Whole Emboss As Component/STL.

  2. In the STL Save Optiondialog box, set the desired tolerance, and click OK.

Tip: You candecrease the tolerance to create a more accurate model if necessary. However, decreasing the tolerance increases the size of the saved file, and itmay not actually be necessary (meaning that it doesn't improve the machiningof the part). The default tolerance is a good starting point.Youcan increase the tolerance (for example, to 0.001) to create a smallerfile size without significant degradation to the model. You should experimentuntil you find the best result for your parts.

  1. In the Save As dialogbox, select the folder in which you want to save the file.

  2. In the File Name boxat the bottom of the dialog box, type the name of the file, for example,Acoustic Guitar.

  3. To save the file, click Save.

The file can be used to create an Emboss from Componentfeature.

When you create a new feature using the component, you can scale the size of the model as needed (and more).

Notes About the Canvas Surface/Non-Emboss Area

The Remove Non-Emboss Area option is found in the Canvas Definition dialog.

  • When Remove Non-EmbossArea is cleared, the non-embossed area (canvas surface) is includedin the saved model.(It is also included in new features thatare created with the component. This is shown in the following image.)

  • When RemoveNon-Emboss Area is selected, the non-embossed area of the model isnot included in the saved model.(The Remove Non-Emboss Area optioncan be used when a new feature is created with the component, as shownin the following image.)
