crafted performance using bobcad cnc software The amazing thing about BobCAD-CAM customers is that they come from many walks of life and are spread all throughout the world. If you like cool automotive parts, follow me halfway around the world to beautiful Australia. Located on the fringes of South Western Sydney and the Southern Highlands in NSW, Australia, Crafted Performance is owned and operated by brothers Mick and Joe Camilleri. Mick is a mechanical engineer and machinist by trade, and Joe is a welder/fabricator that has a passion for all things car & bike related. Crafted Performance delivers unique machining and fabrication solutions for each & every project.

The Camilleri brothers are currently running 3 Axis Pro and 4 Axis Standard on their Mazak VQC 20/50B. Mick tells me, “BobCAD is utilized to deliver various functionality from basic profiling and facing to complex 3D surface contouring. BobCAD is used to create the designs and liaise with clients on component features and then to prepare the setups, toolpaths and simulations to ensure the product is made right on the first pass. When doing a lot of one-offs, this is a key requirement to be efficient and effective. Since the Mazak is an older machine, the internal memory is quite limited on the CNC. BobCAD and Predator are utilized to drip feed the programs and allow features to be machined one at a time or in a continuous program.”

bobcad cnc software making a triple treeThe quality of the work being done at Crafted Performance can clearly be seen in all of the Camilleri brothers’ CNC creations. “I use most facets of the software. From the CAD side to create the models, through to all the 2D and 3D toolpaths, simulation and posting. Drilling, Facing, Profiling, Pocketing, 3D surfacing, and engraving are probably the most common processes used on almost every job. The one that brings it all together is the simulation,” explains Mick. Take these custom triple trees (right) for example. “The CAM side of BobCAD is a powerhouse and one of the key aspects I like about the software. I recently had a sales rep for a competitor product take me through what their top of the lineninja badges made with bobcad cam software product could do, and BobCAD-CAM already delivered the same functionality for me,” says Mick. As we wrapped up, I asked him if he would ever recommend BobCAD to other shops… he tells me, “I would recommend BobCAD-CAM to other shops based on my experience. With the support of people like Al DePoalo on the team, you can get any issues resolved fairly quickly. For the most part, my issues have been user related.”
