Tech Tuesday is a weekly blog that addresses some of the most common questions and concerns that I hear throughout the previous week from users of BobCAD-CAM software. Both customers and noncustomers are more than welcome to leave a comment on what they would like to see covered for the following Tech Tuesday. Enjoy!
Last week I covered the Lathe section of BobCAM V6, highlighting the new features and what they mean to you. This week I am keeping the same theme and highlighting simulation enhancements in the new CAM software plug-in for SOLIDWORKS. These upgraded functions are sure to simplify your workflow and strengthen the quality of your machined parts.
Smart View [Rotation Cube]
If you found it hard switching views in simulation with previous versions of BobCAM or similar products, then this is something that might interest you. Our Smart View feature coupled with the Rotation Cube will allow users to click on a face of the cube to shift to the top, bottom, right, left, front and back views. Click the corners of the Rotation Cube to swiftly move into various isometric views.
Automatic Quality Improvements
Raise your hand if you like repetitive, unnecessary steps… Didn’t think so. In the past, simulating stock removal resulted in graphics quality turning down during the simulation with users having to manually reinstate quality. No longer is this the case! BobCAM will now automatically restore graphics quality following simulation. Your software just got smarter.
When getting the green light on a potential project or trying to gain prospective clients, users were able to save simulations and all the controls in the simulation as an .EXE file to export. However, in some cases, providing this much power, control and data to others can be a counterproductive or lengthy process. Video Capture is our solution, allowing you to keep things simple as needed.

Program Based Stop Conditions
The Program Based Stop Conditions gives our users added control over the start & stop options of their simulation. Along with options to Stop on Tool Change and Stop on Operation Change, the On Block option provides further stop control. On Block provides the option to force the simulation to stop at a particular move block defined by the user. The Stop Before Occurrence option lets you force the simulation to stop before a specified type of occurrence.
Set All to Initial Values
Simply put, users now have the power to set all axis values to the initial starting points of the program. This leads to a more a more accurate simulation cycle for the programmer.
Shortcut Keys Display in Tool Tip
Ever want to learn your shortcut keys easy and fast? Users can now see the current shortcut key information displayed in the tool tip while hovering over a button in simulation.
BobCAM V6 is a dynamic plug-in CAM system with many great new additions to simulation that will surely improve workflow and provide enhanced performance for machining tasks. Thank you for reading another Tech Tuesday; see you next week!
