Stock Type

Introduction

Once you have selected the Workpiece, or when you have skipped past the Workpiece, you will need to select a stock type. BobCAD-CAM currently offers two choices when it comes to stock selection. You can choose between a basic cylindrical shape, or a revolved stock. The stock Size group handles the diameter, inside diameter, and length.  After creating the stock for the job, you can click    next to go directly to the Machine Setup dialog box to define the machining origin and clearance plane values for the job.

Stock Type

Select one of the following options to set the type of stock created.

  • Cylindrical - creates a cylindrical stock with an outside diameter, an optional inside diameter, and a length.

  • Revolved - creates custom stock by revolving 2D geometry around the lathe Z-axis.

Cylindrical

Size

The stock size is set using the followings parameters.

  • (Stock Diameter - sets the outside diameter of the stock.
  • Internal Diameter - sets the inside diameter of the stock.
  • Length - sets the length of the stock along the lathe Z-axis.

  • Stock Origin (Z) - defines the starting point/location of the stock along the Lathe Z-axis. Type a value here if you need to change the front face of the stock from Z0.

Revolved

Size

The size of custom stock is defined by revolving custom sketch geometry that you have already created. After assigning the coordinate system for the stock geometry, click in the Size box, select the geometry to revolve, and click Calculate to create the stock preview in the graphics area.

Selected Geometry

(Delete) - removes the highlighted item from the list.

(Delete All) - removes all entities from the list.

The list box will list the entities currently selected for the function.

  • Calculate Stock - is used to confirm the geometry selection and create the stock after selecting a profile.

Note: The following values can be altered after selecting geometry and clicking Calculate. When you change these values, the stock preview is not updated in the graphics area, but the values are saved and automatically loaded in the Feature page of the wizard.

  • (Stock Diameter - sets the outside diameter of the stock.
  • Internal Diameter - sets the inside diameter of the stock.
  • Length - sets the length of the stock along the lathe Z-axis.
