Edit Cutting Conditions Database

Introduction

The Edit Cutting Conditions Database dialog box allows you to create or modify the parameters stored in the Cutting Conditions Database for each Material, Stock Thickness, and Wire Diameter. When editing the cutting conditions, you are editing the database that is selected for the machine in Current Settings.

To open the dialog box:

 

  • In the CAM Tree, right-click Wire EDM Job, and click Edit Cutting Conditions.

Current Part Settings

The Current Part Settings displays the Material, Stock Thickness, and Wire Diameter of the current Wire EDM Job. This is provided as an informational display.

Database Cutting Conditions

All of the following options determine the available parameters that display in the dialog box for editing. Make the appropriate selections for all options before editing the cutting conditions parameters.

 

  • Material - displays the current material for which you are editing the cutting conditions parameters. You can either select a material type from the list, or you can type the name of a new material to add it to the currently selected database. After typing the name in the Material box, click Update/Save to save the new material to the database.

  • StockHeight - displays the current stock height for which you are editing the cutting conditions parameters. You can either select a stock height from the list, or you can type the value for a new stock height to add to the database. After typing a new value in the Stock Height box, click Update/Save to save the stock to the database.

  • WireDiameter - displays the current wire diameter for which you are editing the cutting conditions parameters. This lists all available wire sizes.

  • NumberofSkims - displays the number of Skim Cut passes for which you are editing the cutting conditions parameters. Click the down arrow and select the number of Skim Cut passes to update the current parameters.

 

  • Tab Cut - select this check box if you want to add a Tab Cut operation to the parameters list so you can then define the cutting conditions for it.

Parameters List

The parameters list displays the available cutting conditions parameters based on the settings described in the previous section of this document. You click in parameters list to enable editing the cutting conditions parameters as needed.

 

  • Update/Save - saves the modified information to the database.

  • Delete Material - removes the currently selected Material from the database.

  • Delete Stock Height - removes the currently selected Stock Height from the database.

  • Delete Current - resets the currently displayed cutting conditions parameters to zero.

 

  • Close - closes the dialog box.

Editing Cutting Conditions

When updating the cutting conditions, you should use the following general process.

 

  1. Select the Material, Stock Height, Wire Diameter, and Number of Skims to populate the parameters list with the current values from the selected database.

    You are editing the database that is selected for the current machine in the Wire EDM Job.

  2. If you want to define parameters for a Tab Cut operation, select the Tab Cut check box to add a Tab Cut to the parameters list.

  3. Click the value in the parameters list that you want to edit and type the new value.

    You can press Tab to move through the boxes from left to right.

  4. Type all new values that you want to update, and click Update/Save to save the information the database.

 

Important: After modifying the cutting conditions, you must click Update/Save to save the information to the database. If you close the dialog box without saving, the changes are removed.

 

  1. Repeat this process for all cutting conditions parameters that you want to update.

  2. To close the dialog box, click Close.

Creating a New Material

  1. Click in the Material box to enable editing.

  2. Type the name of the new material.

  3. Click Update/Save to save the new material.

  4. Follow the Editing Cutting Conditions steps to create cutting conditions for the new material.

 

The new material can then be selected for the job in the Material and Wire Diameter dialog box.

Creating a New Stock Height

  1. Click in the Stock Height box to enable editing.

  2. Type the value of the new stock height.

  3. Click Update/Save to save the new stock height.

  4. Follow the Editing Cutting Conditions steps to create cutting conditions for the new stock height.
