Creating Cylindrical Stock

Introduction

In this example, you learn how to set the stock type, size, orientation, and then add an offset to the stock geometry for the Cylindrical stock type. The part for this example is shown first.

Part 1) Select the Stock type

  1. In order to create cylindrical stock, under Stock Type, select Cylindrical.

Part 2) Set the Stock Size and Orientation

Notice the stock is automatically calculated from the geometry found in the graphics area. This is because the Geometry from Graphics Area option is selected by default.

 

  1. To change the stock extrusion direction, in the Stock Orientation group, click the Extrusion Direction arrow and select X Axis.

    The result is shown in the following image.

Note: All offsets can be created in the Offset group of the Dimension / Offset section.

 

  1. To add an offset to the stock diameter, in the Dimension / Offset group, in the Diameter Offset box, type 1.500 and press Tab.

  2. To add an offset to the start face (where stock coordinate system is displayed), in the Start Face Offset box, type 0.500 and press Tab.

  3. To add an offset to the end face (the face furthest from the stock coordinate system), in the End Face Offset box, type 0.500 and press Tab.

  4. The Stock Definition is now complete, click Next to go to the Machine Setup dialog box.
