Fixture

Introduction

This topic explains how to assign fixture geometry for CAM jobs in BobCAD-CAM. This allows you to assign geometry that represents the fixture to determine what is shown holding the workpiece in the simulation.

Note: You do not have to assign a fixture. If you do not assign a fixture, the fixture option will not be available in the simulation.

The Fixture

Right-click Fixture to open a shortcut menu with the following commands.

Fixture

  • Re/Select - opens Fixture dialog in the Data Entry Manager for you to select the fixture for the machine setup. This is used to define what is shown in the simulation as a fixture.
  • Remove - clears any geometry previously assigned as the fixture in the CAM Tree.

Assigning Fixture Geometry

After creating a CAM job, you can assign fixture geometry.

  1. In the CAM Tree, right-click Fixture, and click Re/Select.

Note: You can click Remove if you only want to remove the current assignment.

  1. The Fixturedialog displays in the Data Entry Manager.

If geometry is already selected for the fixture, you can click or drag a window to deselect the unwanted geometry or delete it directly from the Selected Geometry list.

If geometry has not yet been added, Click or drag a window to select the fixture geometry to add it to the Selected Geometry list.

  1. Click OK to confirm the selection.

When you simulate the program, only the assigned geometry is passed to simulation as the fixture.
