Hole Feature Parameters

Introduction

This topic explains the Feature page of the Lathe Wizard for a Hole feature. This topic will explain the options, provide images, and provide a link to the next topic.

The Feature page

The purpose of Lathe Hole feature is to create cavities along the center of rotation. The Lathe Hole feature offers five operations, each of which has many variables that can be tailored to your needs.  The Feature page will allow you to adjust Material Approach, Top of Feature, and Depth.

Material Approach

  • Clearance Plane - displays the clearance plane value. In the CAM Tree, right-click Machine Setup, and click Edit to set the clearance plane in the Machine Setup dialog box. The clearance plane is incremental from the top of stock (defined in the Stock Wizard). It defines the safe rapid plane used between operations.

  • Rapid Plane - is the safe rapid distance for all operations in the feature. This value is incremental from the Top of Feature.

  • Feed Plane - is the distance at which the tool movement changes from rapid rate to feedrate. This value is incremental from the Top of Feature.

Feature Parameters

  • Diameter - defines the final hole diameter for the feature and assigns default tools if none are assigned in the Tool Crib.

  • Top of Feature - is the top of the material for the feature. This value is incremental from the Machine Setup or machining origin.

    • Pick Top- will hide the Lathe Wizard and launch the Pick Top dialog in the Property Manager in order to let you select a point or a snap point on an entity to set as the Top of Feature. Clicking the entity once will add the geometry to the Selected Geometry list. Click OK to confirm.

      •

(Delete) - removes the highlighted item from the list.

The list box will list the entity currently selected for the function.

  • Total Depth - is the total depth of the feature. This value is used for all feature operations.

    • Pick Bottom- will hide the Lathe Wizard and launch the Pick Bottom dialog in the Property Manager in order to let you select a point or a snap point on an entity to set as the feature depth. Clicking the entity once will add the geometry to the Selected Geometry list. Click OK to confirm.

      •

(Delete) - removes the highlighted item from the list.

The list box will list the entity currently selected for the function.
