Creating Cylindrical Stock

Introduction

In this example, you learn how to set the stock type, size, orientation, and then add an offset to the stock geometry for the Cylindrical stock type. The part for this example is shown first.

Part 1) Select the Stock type

  1. The Stock Definition dialog opens with Rectangular stock selected by default and the Bounding Box option selected to provide enough stock to encapsulate the geometry.This is because the Auto from workspaceoption is selected by default.
    In order to create cylindrical stock, under Stock Type, select Cylindrical and click the Calculate Stock button in the Geometry Options group.

Part 2) Set the Stock Size and Orientation

  1. To change the stock extrusion direction, in the Stock Orientation group, click the Extrusion Direction arrow and select X Axis.

    Click Calculate Stock once more to have the stock set by Geometry from Graphics Area.

Note: All offsets can be created in the Offset group.

 

  1. To add an offset to the stock diameter, in the Offset group, in the Diameter Offset box, type 1.500 and press Tab.

  2. To add an offset to the start face (where stock coordinate system is displayed), in the Start Face Offset box, type 0.500 and press Tab.

  3. To add an offset to the end face (the face furthest from the stock coordinate system), in the End Face Offset box, type 0.500 and press Tab.

  4. The Stock Definition is now complete, click Next to go to the Machine Setup dialog box.
