The Wire EDM Wizard Machine Sequence

Introduction

The Machine Sequence page of the Wire EDM 2 Axis Wizard is used to optimize the machining sequence of the feature when you select more than one profile for the feature geometry (of a single feature).

Tip: In addition to the Machine Sequence optimization, the Posting Order group in the Wire EDM Wizard Posting Settings further optimizes the machining sequence when more than one profile is selected.

Machine Sequence

When you select multiple geometry curves or contours for the feature, the Machine Sequence dialog box is used to optimize the machining order.

Sort Order

The Sort Order group defines the cutting order when multiple contours are selected for a single feature. Select from one of the following options:

  • Closest - the sorting is optimized to create the shortest possible toolpath.

  • No Sorting - the machining order of the contours is random, meaning no sorting is applied.

  • X-Direction - the sorting is optimized along the X-axis, or horizontally, to create the shortest possible toolpath.

  • Y-Direction - the sorting is optimized along the Y-axis, or vertically, to create the shortest possible toolpath.

Start Location/Pattern

  • Start Position - select a corner of the option box to set the starting position of the Machining Sequence.

Select one of the following options to set the machining pattern.

  • Zig -creates a machining sequence with one-way pattern, for example, from left to right. This option is available when using the X, or Y Direction options in the Sort Order group.

  • Zig Zag - creates a machining sequence with an alternating back-and-forth pattern. This option is available when using the X, or Y Direction options in the Sort Order group.
