Introduction to the Backstage
Introduction
This topic will explain the Backstage, and the file options found in it. This topic will also provide links for those portions that are expanded into their own topic.
Backstage
The Backstage is where all the file options, Themes, Help options, Settings Part and Default, User Profiles, and keyboard shortcuts can be found. All of these options found in the Backstage are explained below.
-
New
- The New command opens a new file. This does not close any files that
are currently open.
- Default Document - This group gives you access to New Document. When you click New Document, a document is loaded with the settings as they have been set in the Document Default page of the Settings dialog.
- User Templates - This group gives you access to all of the User Template that have been saved. When you click a particular User Template, all of the information from the original document is copied into a new file. Right-click files in this area in order to Delete the template, or Rename the template.
- Save Current Document as Template - This group gives you access to Save Template. When you click Save Template, the Save Templates dialog launches to allow you to name your template. Clicking Save will save the entire contents of the current file as a template in the User Templates group. When that template is selected again, the contents of the original file are opened in a new document.

Save
- The Save command is used to save any changes that were made to
the current file. If the file has not already been saved, the Save As
dialog displays for you to name the file and select the location to which
the file is saved, Once the file has been saved, the Save command saves
the file without opening a dialog box.
- Save As - The Save As command opens the Save As dialog box for you to name the file, select the file type, and select the location to which the file is saved. The file type is set to the BobCAD .bbcd file by default. To view what other types of files can be saved, click the Save as type arrow to view the list. You can then select the type of file format in which the file is saved.
