Manufacturers throughout the world look for technology to help them stay lean and be more productive. In the world of CNC machining and part-making, CAD-CAM has a critical role in helping achieve the highest levels of CNC efficiency and productivity. One manufacturer, Marshall Since 62, out of Ringgold, GA is achieving that success with BobCAD-CAM.
Scott Marshall, owner of Marshall Since 62 started out doing one-off CNC prototype part making to create solutions for automotive enthusiast that weren’t able to buy the parts they needed elsewhere. Then, he created his own brand of niche market automotive performance products. “I began my machinist career in 1984, working in a racing machine shop that had a pretty exclusive list of racers. I was in that industry for 15 years and have been a CNC machinist, programmer and design engineer for 12 years,” explained Scott about his background in CNC machining.
Scott uses a Probotix Meteor CNC Router Mill with a 25”x 50” travel. They also have a GMax 1.5 3D large format 3D printer. Scott uses BobCAD-CAM software to create toolpath and g-code for the machine to cut his parts. “I make large casting patterns and core components for my own brand of niche market performance automotive industry products such as intake manifolds, cylinder heads, valve covers, etc,” explains Scott.
Scott uses the BobCAD-CAM software to make parts for the automotive industry. Scott says, “The very first product I designed and created using BobCAD-CAM was recently featured in the most highly recognized performance magazine in the world.”
Machine shops do run into situations that are difficult. CAD-CAM helps resolve programming issues to increase productivity. “The main difficulty we were experiencing was only having the ability to hand program off the top of our head to make parts. This greatly limits your level of creativity for the products you can create. I use SOLIDWORKS™ exclusively to 3D model all of my products. And nothing is more frustrating than to have a really awesome 3D model and no way to create it,” says Scott.
“BobCAD-CAM gives you the ability to express more of your imagination in your designs,” explains Scott. “I have adapted a motto of sorts on some of my custom t-shirts that I also make from my 3D models to market myself publicly. BobCAD-CAM simply gives you what you need…the leading edge: ‘Where Innovation and Technology Meet!‘ If you provide the innovation and imagination, BobCAD-CAM will definitely provide the technology to carry you to the leading edge!”
“I use 3D milling strategies on most all of my pattern-making designs,” explains Scott. BobCAD-CAM also developed BobCAM for SOLIDWORKS™, a Gold Partner CAM add-in that allows SOLIDWORKS users to create toolpath and generate g-code inside SOLIDWORKS, witout have to have an external CAM system. “I like how easily BobCAD-CAM integrates and interfaces with SOLIDWORKS. It helps catapult you to a higher level of complex designing and allows you to create anything you can imagine. If you can think it, you can make it!” says Scott.
