Tech Tuesday is a weekly blog that addresses some of the most common questions and concerns that I hear throughout the previous week from users of BobCAD-CAM software. Both customers and future customers are more than welcome to leave a comment on what they would like to see covered for the following Tech Tuesday. Enjoy!

Last week we talked about Multiaxis CAM software in V6, this week we are highlighting the overall CAM improvements in BobCAM V6 for SOLIDWORKS as we continue to shed light on this great new tool. Improving shop efficiency is the core design of this product, with user-friendliness as the driving force. Let’s take a closer look.
backplot in v6 cam software
Backplot
This handy feature in BobCAM gives users a way to track tool movements for a single operation without having to launch the simulation. To do this, just right-click on an operation and select the Backplot option. Users can now, directly inside the CAD window, see the tool movement, current tool location, orientation, Feedrate, starting point and starting direction.

Update All Geometry (CAM Tree)
Have you ever had a time, for one reason or another, that something about your feature geometry changed? One or two features on the CAD model may have been modified, or worse, the machine zero has changed. Now every single feature in the CAM Tree has to have the geometry reassociated. To alleviate problems like these, our Update All Geometries option has been added to the Job Tree. By selecting the Update All Geometries option, users can easily update or reassociate all modified geometries associated with the CAM Tree in one simple step.

BobCAM V6 now offers you a clear, simple visual of the CAD model on the setup sheet, allowing you to provide the machinist even more information about the part and machine zero.

Groups (CAM Tree)
Complicated parts can make for a complicated CAM Tree. The ability to name features can only take you so far as your number of overall features and machine setups grow. To restore more organizational control to your CAM Tree, Groups can now be added to the machine setup. By adding a group, this creates a folder inside of your CAM Tree. Like most Windows-based applications involving folders, simply drag and drop features in the folder, saving space in your CAM Tree. You now have the control to set Add Toolpath patterns, Post All Yes/No and Blank/Unblank Toolpath options on all features in the folder at once. Thank you for reading another Tech Tuesday; see you next week!
