Streamlining Design with CAD/CAM:

Design Features for Holes

Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) systems have become indispensable tools for modern manufacturing. CAD software enables engineers to create intricate designs, accurately defining hole specifications, dimensions, and placement. These designs can then be seamlessly integrated with CAM software to generate toolpaths and machining instructions.

By employing CAD/CAM systems, manufacturers can achieve a high level of precision and repeatability. Engineers can create virtual prototypes, simulate drilling operations, and optimize parameters before initiating physical production. This iterative design process minimizes errors, reduces waste, and maximizes overall efficiency in the shop.

Automating Hole Recognition:

3D Model with Different Size Holes

Prior to the new Hole Recognition feature added to all BobCAD CAM products, finding and programming hole cycles for different sizes and types of holes was less than optimal.  There were no rules or logic users could apply to their selection.  Instead, users pick hole sizes one by one, either manually grouping hole sizes and depths together or by using the hole groups within BobCAM’s hole wizard.  Either way, many steps were needed to pick sizes and depths for different types of holes.

Hole recognition provides a size range filter with rules to your selection, giving you the ability to identify and edit different types of hole features and sizes.  Adding new programming power to such a common programming scenario, drilling holes.

Hole recognition technology significantly expedites the programming process. By eliminating the need for manual selection and grouping, you save valuable time and reduce the risk of human error. The automation of hole recognition also enhances accuracy, ensuring that drilling operations are programmed to design specifications. This technology is particularly useful to improve overall shop productivity.

Generating Optimized G-Code Programs:

Using Hole Recognition, manufacturing engineers can select appropriate drilling tools, and specify cutting parameters to achieve maximum efficiency. CAD CAM tools to optimize tool changes minimize rapid movements, and optimize cutting sequences. A whole new level of automation and optimization tools for you to use and reduce machining time, and decreased tool wear, to improve your overall shop performance.
