Tech Tuesday: Wireframe Creation

Tech Tuesday is a weekly blog that addresses some of the most common questions and concerns that I hear throughout the previous week from users of BobCAD’s CNC software. Today’s Tech Tuesday is going show you the many ways you can create wireframe sketches in BobCAD-CAM’s CNC software. Let’s take a look at one of the popular design features BobCAD offers for 2D wireframe creation.

Where do you find the wireframe creation tools?

You can easily find wireframe creation tools in BobCAD-CAM’s software in the Create 2D tab on the application’s top menu strip.

You’ll find the Create 2D ribbon bar loaded with all of the wireframe creation tools you’ll need for your design project.

Like all design systems the primary forms of geometry are made up of Points, Lines, Arcs and splines.

BobCAD’s ribbon bar makes it easy to select the desired drawing feature. Each feature will display a tooltip when your hover over one of the icons. The tip will describe the feature and how you can use it.

You’ll also notice that when a drawing feature has multiple options a pull down window becomes available.

Each one of the sub menus will also have tooltip, again to help you understand how to use that drawing feature.

Which ever feature you click on will be the active drawing feature you’ll be using. You’ll notice the data entry window will populate with the options used to define the geometry attributes.

At the same time, if that drawing features offers multiple options, those will be listed at the top of the data entry window for that drawing feature.

This makes it extremely easy to swap drawing feature most for the geometry type you are creating.

BobCAD offers 5 Point creation methods:
Point Coordinate- Allows users to enter an absolute location for a point. You can create a point at a snap a point location.

Points From Geometry- Allows users to create point locations based on selected geometry. Similar to snapping a point to a snap point, with a twist. Users can filter where points will be created by choosing 1 or multiple point from options. Choose entity end point, entity middle point, arc center, intersection and intersection on extension. This method allows users to select multiple sketches and choose where they want the points created.

Point Incremental –Allows users to create a point location delta / incremental to an selected point or snap location.
Point on Entity –Allows users to draw a point location on a selected piece of geometry based on a percentage, distance or angle.
Point Perpendicular –Allows users to create a perpendicular point based on a selected piece of geometry and a selected point.
