Patterns and Parameters
Introduction
This topic explains the Patterns and Parameters page of the Mill Thread operation parameters found in the Mill Thread Wizard.
The Patterns and Parameters page
Patterns
Patterns
Method
Top Down
- the tool starts the cut at the top of the thread and departs
from the cut at the bottom of the thread.
Bottom Up
- the tool starts the cut at the bottom of the thread and departs
from the cut at the top of the thread.
Thread Type
Inside
- the toolpath creates an internal thread.
Outside
- the toolpath creates an external thread.
Side Roughing
Select this check
box to create a side roughing pattern that will create the thread in multiple
steps.
Clear the check box to create the thread in a single pass.
- Additional
Passes - adds passes to the single pass thread creation.
- Pass Amount - sets the spacing of the additional passes from the final thread creation pass.
Compensation
System Compensation
With this option On, the system offsets the geometry by the tool radius. With this option Off, you should use Machine Compensation.
- On - the toolpath
is calculated based on the radius of the tool.
- Off - the toolpath
is calculated from the center line.
Machine Compensation
These options only effect the output in the
posted code.
-
Off - no cutter compensation codes are output in the posted program.
-
Left (G41) - the toolpath of the operation represents the center of the cutter. The post processed code includes the command for cutter compensation to the left of the contour.
-
Right (G42) - the toolpath of the operation represents the center of the cutter. The post processed code includes the command for cutter compensation to the right of the contour.
Parameters
Thread Parameters
- Thread Library
Select this check
box to select a thread as defined in the Thread Library.
Clear the check box to enter threading parameters manually. - Thread Diameter
- is the major diameter of the thread for internal or external threads.
- Thread Height
- sets the distance from the minor diameter to the major diameter
of the thread.
- Thread Pitch
- sets the distance between the top of each thread.
- Threads Per Revolution
- sets the number of threads generated per revolution. The
system automatically calculates the number of revolutions required
based on the Thread Height and Thread Pitch values.
- Taper Angle - allows you to set the angle for a tapered thread.
Taper From
-
Top - sets the origin of the taper
from the top of the hole. -
Bottom - sets the taper from the
bottom of the hole.
Other
- Thread Start Angle - defines the angle from the X-axis at which the thread milling starts. This is always applied at the top of the feature regardless of using Top Down or Bottom Up.
