The Probing Feature Settings
Introduction
The second step of the Mill 2 Axis Wizard is to define the Feature Parameters. These parameters define rapid movement and depth settings that are applied to all operations in the feature. All of the parameters found in the Feature dialog box are explained in this topic.
Feature
Material Approach
- Clearance Plane
- sets the clearance
plane value for the probing feature. This is the safe height to travel between operations
as an incremental value from the top of stock.
- Rapid Plane
- is the height at which the tool can rapid safely within a single
probing operation. This value is incremental from the Top of Feature
setting in the CAM wizard.
Feature Parameters
- Top of Feature
- is the top of the material for the feature. This value is incremental
from the Machine Setup or machining origin.
Machining Strategy
In the Machining Strategy section, there are three groups:
- Default Strategy and User Defined Template list: The
Templates provide predefined groups of operations that can be applied
to a feature. Select a template to populate the Current Operations
list. (You can customize the DMS Defaults to define the default operations
for each template.)
- Available Operations: The
Available Operations list displays all operations that exist for the
selected feature type. After selecting a template, you can use the
Available Operations to ad operations to the Current Operations.
- Current Operations: Finally,
you can reorder and/or remove operations from Current Operations to
define all of the operations for the feature. (You can modify this
list at any time, for example, when editing the feature.)
To learn more about modifying operations, view Customizing Operations.
When defining the machining strategy, create an order of operations that can be effectively applied to the selected feature geometry.
Machining Strategy Buttons
-
(Add Operation)
- adds the selected Available Operations to Current Operations. -
(Delete Operations)
- removes the selected Current Operations from the list. -
(Move Up)
- moves the selected Current Operation up one level. -
(Move Down)
- moves the selected Current Operation down one level.
Save to Defined Template
In addition to altering the existing Strategies, you can also create your own with the Save to Defined Template option. To learn more, see the Defined Templates topic.
Posting Parameters
- Work
Offset # - select the work offset code to use for this feature
in the posted NC program. The post processor must be configured to
support the work offset selected.
